Appraisals

Arthur Groom & Co. appraisals are performed by a qualified Gemological Institute of America (GIA) graduate and member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) who abide by and uphold the NAJA ‘Code of Professional Ethics’.

We purchase jewelry, diamonds, gemstones and some watches. If you are interested in selling, please email ali@arthurgroom.com for more information on obtaining an offer to buy or consign.

Appraisals are performed in our state of the art gemological laboratory.

Appraising is a procedure that requires extensive gemological training and market expertise. Our expert appraisals are appropriate for insurance replacement and estate valuations. Each appraisal is performed by a Certified Gemologist Appraiser in our state-of-the-art gemological laboratory and is accompanied by a written detailed description and photograph. We will keep a copy of your appraisal with our records, which may be referred to at any time. As a guide, appraisals should be updated every three to five years, unless large fluctuations in precious metal or gemstone prices warrant an earlier reassessment.

Your appraisal is needed to insure your jewelry.

Each valuation provides you with the estimated cost of replacing the item or recreating it as closely as possible. Antique items are given a replacement value with a comparable item that may not be an exact duplicate. Taken into consideration are current market prices, labor costs, creative design as well as other market activity. Each valuation is provided as an estimate of replacement value and not intended to be used for your other appraisal needs as a basis for a purchase price of the item.

Why Recycle Gold?

Gold is a critical part of the world’s infrastructure, yet it is a non-renewable resource that is labor intensive to produce. The burden of gold production, however, is lessened by recycling efforts that contribute to the world’s gold supply.

About 1,000 tons of gold are recycled each year to meet annual market demands, which are higher than what is produced through mining alone.

Jewelry is responsible for about 70 percent of the gold demand. Jewelers who sell their scrap gold and polishing material contribute to the large amount of gold that re-enters the market each year via precious metal recycling. Industrial uses contribute to another 15 percent of the annual demand, with the final 15 percent in the hands of bullion investors.
